Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 can still be protected in Sophos Central and will continue to update until the end of October 2023.

Sophos Announcement Details:

Extended Support: Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 can still be protected in Sophos Central and will continue to update until the end of October 2023

What Does this Mean?

These operating systems will continue to be supported by Intercept X for Server until the end of October 2023. After that date, these operating systems will only be supported if you have purchased an Extended Support License. We always encourage our customers to use the latest operating systems and service packs. However, we also recognize that some customers cannot upgrade in time for various reasons. Because of this, we are offering extended support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 from their current retirement dates until the end of October 2026, with certain feature limitations.

Customer Action / Remediation:

  • To continue receiving updates and support, Sophos Central customers need to purchase the Extended Support license. After this, Sophos will continue to provide security updates and periodic engine refreshes to maintain protection but reserves the right to review the status of support should an issue be found, which means that we cannot provide suitable protection for these operating systems. See Sophos End User Terms of Use for more details. Some features will not be supported as part of the Extended Support offering.
  • After October 2023, the Server Lockdown feature will no longer be supported on legacy Operating Systems (Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2), even with an Extended Support License. Locked Servers will be automatically unlocked after this time.
